Overview of Tale

Tale is an open-source project workspace designed for teams to coordinate work between humans and AI agents. It integrates project boards, task tracking, persistent agent sandboxes, and shared context into a single self-hostable web interface.

Teams can create tasks with context, assignees, and acceptance criteria, delegate tasks to configured AI agents operating inside isolated sandboxes, and review reports and deliverables together.

Key Capabilities

  • Interactive Project Boards: Organize work across Kanban boards (To Do, In Progress, In Review, Done) with support for both human team members and AI agent assignees.
  • Persistent Agent Sandboxes: Run agents with isolated tool access, allowing them to manipulate files, run commands, and generate deliverables safely in dedicated environments.
  • Model and Provider Agnostic: Connect commercial cloud providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) or local models without markup or vendor lock-in.
  • Shared Knowledge & Attachments: Task discussions, file attachments, and agent execution logs stay permanently linked to the project.

Self-Hosting with Docker & CLI

Tale can be deployed locally or on your own servers using the official CLI:

bash
1# 1. Install the Tale CLI
2curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tale-project/tale/main/scripts/install-cli.sh | bash
3
4# 2. Initialize a new workspace
5tale init my-workspace
6cd my-workspace
7
8# 3. Start local services and web UI
9tale dev

After starting the stack, open your browser and navigate to http://localhost:3000 to complete setup.
